The new Clay County Detention Center consists of a modern secure building housing up to 48 inmates. The staff is well trained, meeting and exceeding all state requirements as Detention Officers. We use the most secure methods available in housing, visitation and transporting of inmates. Those people who come into custody can be expected to be treated fairly and with respect. Under the direction of Sheriff Davis we have greatly improved on the old way of doing business. We rarely have a problem with discipline and this can be attributed to the new attitude and approach of the Detention Center staff. One of the ways we stop problems before they start is by using video visitation. Preventing contact also prevents the possibility of contraband items from being introduced into the facility. During the course of any given week we may come into contact with inmates awaiting trial for misdemeanor charges or those awaiting trial on charges of murder. We also hold sentenced inmates awaiting transfer to prison or those serving their time in local confinement. When bed space is available, we also house inmates from other counties. This is a good source of revenue for Clay County. One of the most common questions asked of me as the Administrator is when visitation hours are and do I need to reserve a time.

Visitation is held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

We do ask that visitors call ahead and schedule a time to visit.

If you have a family member in our facility, feel free to contact me with any concerns you might have.

Sincerely,

Captain Shon Crisp
